So we had a check up with the G.I last week. Noah is gaining good weight (although he has dropped in percentiles), and is hapy for the most part. The spit up has decreased and the doc felt it okay to take him off of the Reglan...cold turkey. I questioned him a couple of times on this one, because I had read and heard that Reglan is a drug you need to wean. He said we could wean him or just stop cold turkey. He did want us to continue with the prevacid though, at least for another month before stopping it.

So we stopped the Reglan cold turkey and the first 2 nights were a nightmare - we were up with a screaming baby, and we were all miserable. The sencond night we ended up giving him a dose and he went back to sleep. You could tell his stomach was bothering him. So after that we decided to take the weaning route. So every week we will decrease his Reglan by a dose. Within a month he will hopefully be off and doing ok. As far as the G.I. goes - he said we are pretty much done with him, unless Noah's Reflux flairs up. We'll see how it goes, but as of right now he is still dependent on the meds.

Man I feel ya.. Tristan is on Prevacid and it seems like if I forget his dose in the morning that day is just hell..
I always feel as if... why does a little baby have to go through something like this, why would something like that happen to something so innocent and pure.. it breaks up me inside..
Hope he does good with weaning off..
xoxo Charlee

Thanks Charlee....yeah you gotta take it day by day. At what age was your son diagnosed? Did you try any other meds before the Prevacid? We'v pretty much tried them all....I hate the thought of my son needing medicine. It makes me mad when I go to give him his medicine and he is so "use to it" you know? A baby shouldnt be used to meds....ugh. But I try to look at it this way - does it help him? I'm willing to do whatever I can to help him and make him comfortable and happy...thanks for your kindness.

He was diagnosed at 3 months, he is 4 months now. He started on Zantec and that wasn't working so the doctor put him on 15 mg of Prevacid and now he's a happy little baby. He still spits up but the prevacid makes it to where it doesn't hurt him when he does spit up. The cereal in his bottle helps with the spitting up.

Glad that the appt went well and your able to start weaning off.
Calleigh has a GI appt to talk about more option for her, and Crystal just had one. Calleigh thank god came home on meds so i haven't had the "miserable" time I did with crystal.

All the meds actually don't help with the spit up, it helps reduce the acid so that it doesn't hurt. As time goes on you'll see they still spit up mostly swallow it again LOL Calleigh is starting already at 6wks
