I happened to find this board by accident, and I'm really glad! I'm Courtney, mommy to Liliana (Lily) who is 2.5, and Abrielle (Abri) who is almost 5 months.
I figured out Abri had reflux by her second week. She stopped sleeping unless I was holding her, she screamed and arched her back after every feeding, I considered her spit up to be projectile but all of her pedis disagreed with me. I was using a bath towel instead of a burp rag for goodness sakes! The only thing that made her happy was nursing, so she was permantly latched on. She was prescribed Zantac twice a day, but hated the way it tasted. I think very little actually made it in her mouth. After a few weeks of no improvement, I requested another medication. She was given Prevacid solutabs. The prevacid plus clipping her tongue tie made a vast improvement.
The past few weeks she hasn't been receiving the meds and has done really well. Unfortunately, she has started with the back arching and fussing after eating recently. So back to the Prevacid.
The screaming and sleepless nights I've managed to deal with. The worst part of the reflux is the reaction I get from my parents and other people who claim to know better. According to them, I am letting her manipulate me into holding her. If I would just let her CIO, she'd get over it. That's so frustrating that they refuse to acknowledge her medical condition. Even my friend's pediatrician who has never met me or Abri has said that I'm just spoiling her (my friend has a 2 month old and happened to mention at her daughter's appointment that Abri still wakes up several times a night to eat).
I'm just really glad that there are others who know what I'm dealing with!
