Wesley was waking up screaming every night (3-12 times) and would fall back asleep before I got to him. He's been coughing and having foul breath too. We took him to his GI specialist and they are putting him back on Axid 1.7 ml, 2 times/day. They are also doing a stool test since his poo is really weird again and they are concerned he might have blood in his stomach (has happened before). He's still between 5-10% on the growth scale, but that's on his regular curve so they are not concerned (21 lbs, 30" at 18.5 mths).

any upate now that he is back on meds? Is he feeling better?
Avery is a totally different kid now that we are back on prevacid. She is sleeping through the night or waking once around 4-5am nurses and goes back to sleep. Also taking longer naps! 2 hours most of the time with 12 hours at night. Yesterday she slept 3 hours for nap!! It was a rough night though so won't let that happen again. I woke her up today after 2 hours again
They only has him on the meds for 6 weeks. The specialists said that meds like Axid are supposed to be used for short periods. He did great, and stopped crying at night. A few nights ago, he was spitting up and saying "Ow". I am not sure if I should try giving it to him again. Ugh! This is still confusing to me. I'm not sure why he shouldn't just stay on the meds.

yeah i don't understand why docs try to convince themselves that babies ALWAYS outgrow reflux. i had horrible reflux as a child and was never diagnosed until i was teen. My esophogus was eroded and the muscles paralyzed by then. I had to go on a special diet and tons of meds to heal it. I'm 24 and still on meds. I'll be on meds for life.
Ask the specialist if you can try a 3-4 month rotating schedule of a "lower dose" med like zantac and pepcid. Both of them can be used long term with less risk of side effects and our GI likes them for older babies and toddlers that need a long term solution.
I would ask about Nexium as well. Nexium is one of the better choices for healing. Many GIs will put kids on it for 3-4 months, to allow the esophagus to heal and thenput them on something else, like PRevacid, Axid or even Xantac.. kinda thing
