I've posted once or twice in here but I may start to come here more often. JM has always been a great resource for me and I have a feeling some this board might be a great place for questions as I complete my MAT program over the next five semesters.

I am Michele (26) and am starting back to school this semester for my initial certification in Elementary Ed. I had my orientation tonight and I'm very excited about starting my classes next week!

I could probably already think of lots of questions to post here but I will hold off on most of them for now, although there is something I've been wondering about lately. I wasn't successful at BF my son and gave up too early and now I am more determined than ever to BF baby #2 someday. But taking much time off work will not be an option for me so we are hoping for a summer baby. If I can make it past the first few weeks of BF I know I will have to pump when I go back to work and am worried that it will be too overwhelming or difficult for me and make me want to give up again. So I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with pumping at work?

I do! I BF both my daughters and pumped at work.

I was on a 90 minute block so I had a 90 minute planning period. I would pump during my planning hour, during lunch, and immediately after school.

I teach HS and depending on how badly I needed to, I'd pump during my advanced class. It was a small class and they knew what I was doing and it was never an issue.

I imagine it will be more difficult with elementary ed since it's obviously not possible to leave. Hopefully another elementary ed teacher can help you out.

I think in most places your workplace HAS to allow you to pump so perhaps they could provide an aide or something like that while you need to be out.

I do, but I'm a bad example, this past year dh actually drove our daughter over at lunch every day, on the like 3 occasions he had to miss I pumped.

The year before I pumped for a while and then just had to give up on that, I still continued to bf when I was with him though, he was over 6 months old.

I pumped at work. I didn't do it enough though, and my supply lessened. Next time I will ask my principal to find someone to cover my class more often in the day so I can for sure do it when I need to.
