Do you ever do any pre-teaching with any of your students who are in special ed. or who are ELL? What kinds of pre-teaching activities do you do with them?

I'm trying to give my kids printable books (like from readingatoz.com) ahead of our science and social studies units to give them some background vocabulary help in hopes that the extra boost will help them.

I do that with my sixth graders when they are learning about plate tectonics and volcanoes in their science class. Reading A to Z has some nice supplemental material that I use to teach nonfiction...plus it prepares them for what they will do in science. The science teacher loves it because they have some background right before she begins her unit.
