Do you do whole class incentives? Do you do them frequently or just on occasion?

I do a whole class incentive. When the class is good they have an animal that moves up a space on the board and when they don't do so well they move backwards. Whichever class gets farthest ahead or reaches the end of the board at the end of the 9-weeks gets a party. It does pretty well.

That's a cute idea!

Last year my kids could earn a link to a paper chain each day - once it reached the floor they got to vote on a fun activity (show and tell, lunch in the classroom, etc).

I will reward the whole class but it isn't something that is charted. I don't do a clip chart anymore. We will do cheers and compliments. I plan fun activities that go with lessons and I include the students so they will want to behave. I know it doesn't sound like it could possibly work. But it really does. It is a whole school program called Great Expectations and we are constantly talking about the expectations. Last year I never sent a child to the office and I didn't move students desks away from the group. It was amazing - the difference in the atmosphere in my classroom. The kids corrected each other because "we cheer each other to success." I am even more excited to get this new group who have been using the program for a whole year. They will come in already knowing my expectations.
