In Texas, we have all started back this week w/ our students. We went in for professional development last week. I can't wait til this year is over! TX passed a law that students can't go back before Labor Day!!!!

I didn't know that! So, does that mean the year will run longer into the summer? (I'm in Austin)

I think that depends on the district. HISD is going to take some of the days we have off during the school year so that we can still end in May. It is rediculous to start on Aug. 14th! That barely gives the students & teachers a break after summer school. Not only that, IT IS HOT!!!! It costs a fortune to keep a school cooled in August.

Astrid...thats funny because in ca there is a movement to go back before labor day so that we can get our instruction in before the testing dates that occur in may. Every year we race through the standards and then have almost 2 months after testing where according to the state nothing we teach matters.....

Of course I like those 2 months because that's the time I can slow down and focus on a part of the subject I really like but may not be in the standards like the animal kingdom (cut from the bio standard almost 10 years ago)
