So does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it through the first day (both for your child and for yourself)?

Here are mine:
1. start adjusting the sleep schedule before school begins. I hard to teach a class to student who would normally be asleep at 8am.......

2. Take kids on a tour of the school before schools starts. Show your dc where his/her class (or classes) are, where the bathroom is and where lunch can be found.

Okay....so lets build this list!! Add your suggestions at the bottom.

try to meet the teacher before school starts (they have those orientations for a reason- go to them!!) especially if you have younger kids!

Make sure the kids are up in the morning with enough time to get ready and eat breakfast without having to rush or be hectic.

Talk to them about what they can expect the first day. Especially kindergardners or kids going to a new school.

Give them a good breakfast! Don't let them not eat b/c they are nervous. I had a student on Monday that did that & ended up in the nurse's office. Poor thing!

Also, make sure your child has contact information memorized along w/ how they are going home. If they go home by bus, make sure they know their number!
