So I FINALLY got an electric pump. I had been using the manual one they gave me at the hospital. Its a pain, so I havent been pumping often. Well, I finally got it all figured out, set up, and was ready to go. I cant seem to get much of anything to happen without getting too much suction. I tried doing both and just one at a time. I get a little more doing just one and having to basically squeeze it out. I was in tears the first night I tried to use it because I was SO frustrated! I feel like the manual one was more effective. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some special trick? Im getting so discouraged!

what pump are you using? with ds I used a cheap one and it was harder to use than the free manual one from the hospital. are you feeling letdown when using it? is Greyson nearby? you need to be able to relax and maybe even see him (or a picture of him) to help with letdown to get milk to flow. it helps a lot if the pump allows you to control the length of suction too...

I agree - what pump are you using?

You may also want to give the LLL a call or at least call a LC - they can usually help. Plus everyone responds differently For some manual pumps simply work out better

Its a Baileys system with a Nature III motor. Its got low medium and high controls. I feel the let down the pump (not really well scheduled yet). Today I got about an ounce total. I get that from each side if not more when I use the manual. Ive been more relaxed today while pumping than in the past week, and i did get more milk this time. Could it be that my supply hasnt really stabilized?

Is it normal to have to squeeze and massage it out while pumping? It might also be from the breast reduction. I never know whats normal and what is just a result of the surgery.

Hmm. I would think you should be getting more out with the electric. I get so much more with an electric. Are you staying relaxed? That might affect it. I am sorry but I don't know anything about the pump you are using.

Its normal to massage, but of course you dnot want to do it so hard you bruise yourself or anythign

It may be the pump too. Call a LC & see if any of them rent medelas - may be worth trying one of those before making a final decision on the quality of your pump. Personally Ive never heard of the one you have, but I'm a tried & true medela fan

Its worth a call to the LC though - a few minutes may save you weeks of frustration

And of course, you could just take some tiume to respond to the pump. Is it 1 oz each side or total?
