First things first - switch drs!

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/pre...-benefits.html

Even the AAP suggests bfing a MINIMUM of a year and beyond!
World Health ORganization says 2 years and beyond!

Extended Breastfeeding Fact Sheet

Nursing Beyond a year:

Myths Vs. Facts:
http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/ebf-myths.html

Of noted importance:
MYTH: The immunities in mother’s milk are insignificant after the first few months.
FACT: The immunities in mother’s milk continue as long as nursing continues, and some of the immunities increase in concentration as baby moves toward weaning. Children who are breastfed have fewer illnesses and illnesses of shorter duration than their non-nursing peers. The American Academy of Family Physicians notes that children weaned before two years of age are at increased risk of illness.

Is there any value beyond 1 yr?

The Benefits:

Research shows:

I could give you 10 pages more! lol.

Give THESE to the dr when you go to collect your records & tell him until he brushes up on his MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE, he shouldnt go around speaking of that which he knows nothing about!

What a jerk! It seems like many doctors are eager to blame breastfeeding when it's obvious it has nothing to do with it. Some doctors are so uneducated, which is ironic, because they should know the MOST about the health benefits of breastfeeding.

You really should give those articles to your MD. Doctors undereducated about breastfeeding can be dangerous to new mothers (i.e. the ones he will continue to see after you've left him for a new doc.) Mail the articles to him if you don't want to be confrontational. He needs to know he's dishing out bad advice.

All the ones I posted have references many of them from medical journals & reviews. The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) is referenced in many of the articles. WHO is also a medical org.

besides the articles... ask him why a child should be ripped away from the mother's milk and then given milk that is produced by a COW (ultimately, for baby cows) that has been treated so much that any antibiotic/antibacterial, etc. properties that it once had are long gone...when the mother's milk still contains those properties in an even better form--since it's made for humans instead of cows...

UGH! I'd so find a new doctor. Personally, I'd call and make a formal complaint through your insurance company AND the AAP.
