I have tried everything to unclog this milk duct. It's going on two weeks now. I've tried warm compress, massage, nursing positions. I'm starting to think it's just going to be clogged forever. I also have 2 nicks in that same nipple from the baby biting me. Between the missing chunks of nipple and the enormous clog (the clog is about 1/3 the size of the whole boob) I am in pain!

Any suggestions???

I'm not sure why it isn't healing, but I can give you some links with information that might be helpful:
Plugged Ducts: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/mastitis.html
Recurrent Mastitis and plugged ducts: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/re...t-mastitis.html
Lecithin treatment for plugged ducts: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vi.../lecithin.html
Breast abcess: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/...t-abscess.html

Do you have any signs of mastitis? Fever, flu-like symptoms or the hot, red area near the plugged duct? If in doubt, it doesn't hurt to see your doctor, who may be able to help you get rid of the area that is clogged. Sometimes, it gets to the point that you just can't get rid of it yourself. I hope you get some relief soon!

make sure to see someone about it I had one that turned into an absess and I had to have it removed w/ a needle which wasn't fun but much better than what the surgeon wanted to do by cutting it out. I hope it goes away soon!

Thanks ladies.
It finally went away- well mostly. But now it's back! This is getting old. This side has been clogged a gazillion times since he was born. Maybe it's faulty ductwork? If this one doesn't clear up soon, I guess I'll have to ask the doctor.

Good luck!

Thank you. I am still clogged this many weeks later. I guess I will try the lecithin.

The advice the other ladies gave is very good. I don't have much additional, but I know where you're coming from. I didn't have a clog that lasted 2 weeks, but I have had recurring clogs that at times I was getting every day or other day for a month. If I hand expressed milk I could actually see white flecks on my nipple. Sometimes I could press down and out enough that they would shoot out (kindof like popping a zit lol) I would drink lots and lots of water, and try the lecithin. I also took ibuprofen, which was recommended to ease the pain and help dilate the vessels. The nurse said it will act on the milk ducts kindof like it does on blood vessels. I also have tried dunking my whole breast in very hot water to see if that helps more than a shower. Also, keep a heating pad on it

I don't have much else to tell you, but definitely keep an eye on it for mastitis. I would call the dr if it doesn't go away soon.

I empathize with you, because I definitely know how painful and miserable clogs are. Every time I get one I go into panic mode. It was always on one side for me too, the right side. Good luck!
