Olivia had her four-month appt and she's doing great. Her weight is still in the 90th percentile, lol, at 15lbs 4 oz and she's now 24 3/4 inches long. The doctor said she is very healthy and strong. He didn't draw any blood but he said that exclusively breastfed babies tend to be anemic and he wanted Olivia to start taking iron supplements. I'm not ready to start her on any cereal yet (food allergies in my family) but I'm not really familiar with the need to supplement with iron. Is it something that's necessary? I hate to give it to her if it's not necessary (doesn't it cause constipation?)
Your advice is much appreciated.
I wouldn't reccomend it, especially since he didn't even take a blood test to know one way or the other. Breastfed babies get everything they need from our milk, so honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Here's a link with more information on it: http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/iron.html
