Blake has recently started biting (toothless) down and tugging at my nipple while he is eating. It is not when he is finished and bored, he does it from the start. I tell him no and have not yelled at him (though I have felt like it!).

My nipples now have the beginnings of cracks or blisters. My left breast has pain that seems to be inside (but maybe it is just superficial). I am actually not writing for advise on how to stop him (though I welcome it) but on advise on how to heal it. I have had thrush and clogged ducts, and am hoping this is not (sometimes breast pain can seem to all run together). I leave for a trip to Seattle on Thursday (and a 7 hour flight with him) and fear problems on the trip.

Any tips or advise? I am nervous about my trip now!

I am wondering if this is the start to thrush again. I remember thinking that DD was hurting me when I had thrush, just because my nipples were so sore when she nursed. It was hard to tell the difference. I'm sore again with this pregnancy, and it seems like anything she does is intensified because of the soreness.
It could also be that he's teething, he seems to be at the age that his first could come through. Abigail was always a rough nurser when she teethed, she would literally teeth on me. Ouch!

Yeah, I don't know what the heck to think. I just know that 1. He is also teething ON ME and it hurts and 2. I hope this is not thrush and that my trip this week is not ruined because of it! I will be NIP-ing all over the place for a week!!!

I went ahead and threw on some gentian violet. I figured it can't hurt! Maybe if this is the beginning of thrush I will knock it out before it gets too bad.

I have had thrush twice...the first time was REALLY bad. I did the gentian violet and it fixed everything.

The second time I could just tell it was starting up again...my Doctor told me to buy a tube of Nystatin cream (it's over the counter) and just use that twice a day on my nipples until they felt better. And that worked like a charm. Now if I start to feel that "inside pain" I will just wear some Nystatin to bed and it's usually fine by the next morning.

HTH! good luck with your trip!
