I have been really struggling with an upper respiratory infection this week. This past couple of days my supply has been sooo low when I am pumping at work. I can barely put out 3 oz of milk after 10 to 15 minutes of work. Could it be cause I've been sick??
Definitely. Are you on any medications too? Certain decongestants, I believe, can inhibit your supply. That would match up with something you would take for an URI. Here's a list of medications from Kellymom.com and how some of them can affect your supply: http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html
Just being sick in general can have an effect on your supply. I had the stomach flu last winter and my supply plunged to almost nothing in just 12 hours. It didn't take long to bring it back, once I was eating and drinking well again, it came back up. Keep hydrated and watch out for those medications that might damage your supply. 3oz isn't bad at all, but if you continue to have problems after you fight this off, then try some fenugreek to help boost your supply back up.
