Hi ladies! Although I am pumping mostly, I am also BFing my triplets at least once a day, trying to push that up to twice but it is very hard. I just went through a nasty bout of mastitis & lost a huge portion of my milk supply. I am trying to get it back by drinking more, eating a little bit more, drinking Mother's Milk tea, & taking fenugreek. My question to you all is how much fenugreek should I take daily? Thanks!

Work up to 3- 4 a day, 3 - 4 times a day for a total of 9 - 12. Just be cautious - mastitis usually comes about as a result of a plugged duct, which is usually the result of TOO much milk. SO gradually increase supply - but be sure you dont work it up so much that you get plugged ducts and mastitis again!

So, should I take 2 in the morning, 2 in the evening or spread them out throughout the day? Also, why only 9-12 days? Thanks!

I generally spread them out 3 at a time

You can do 2 though.

It's not only 9-12 days... It's 3-4 at a time, 3-4 times a day. You'll end up taking 9-12 pills in one day, for as long as it takes to bring your supply up.

Hi Astrid! I never took the fenugreek tablets, but I did find a nursing tea that had fenugreek in it and I drank like 4-6 cups of that per day. I also found that drinking LOTS of water and eating oatmeal helped my supply.

Ok, now I understand! I will take 2 fenugreeks every feeding during the day & see if that helps. I'm also drinking the tea which reminds me I need to make a cup. Can you put sugar in it or will that mess things up? I'm really trying to hold on to pumping/BFing b/c I know it is best for my kids. I just want to stay sane. I think I am going to miss a pump session in the middle of the night as I did last night. Seems like the next pump session, I pump double so it isn't affecting the supply. That is the ONLY way I am able to get a chunk of sleep longer than 90 minutes.

Def take at least 9 fenugerek a day! I just noticed your siggy, that you have trips!

I know sleep is crucial, but id suggest sneaking in naps as much as possible, and try notto skip pumping sessions... it will be the worst thign you can do to your supply! I know its tough, but maybe if you enlist DH's help lol. (yea i know, fat chance if hes like mine!).

Are the babes still in the hospital? Any idea on when theyll be getting home?

hi astrid! i have been stalking you on JM since i found out you were expecting triplets! i'm glad to see you here. i just wanted to let you know, my baby was in the nicu for a month (not preemie though, long story) so i know how hard it can be, plus you've got three in there so i can only imagine what you are going through. i've been pumping very small amounts for almost 7 weeks now, and you are right, it can only help your babies, even if it is driving you crazy! hang in there, and good luck! i am so glad your three are out and doing well!

I was drinking Mother's Milk tea, five times a day. It helped tremendously! I was able to pump 4oz at a time from one side. I stopped and got regular fenugreek tea b/c it was cheaper...same result basically. But I was only drinking 3 a day instead to see if it would mess things up. It didn't. Sugar has no effect on milk production even if it's in the tea. I would think. And if you try the oatmeal too then I heard that you should get the real thing. Not the instant kind.

Lala...they are home actually. Pumping around the clock was the easiest thing to do when they were in the NICU but now that they are home, it is really hard to feed babies & pump at the same time. I think the only way for me to get this together is drop a pump session at night. I need to sleep. It's like being stuck between a rock & a hard place...you need sleep but you need to pump. Which is more important?
