A little over a week ago, I developed a crack in the skin on my left nipple. I was pretty sore, and I kep lanolin on it as much as possible. It didnt get any better. After a couple days, the skin all over the under side of my nipple started getting scab like and flaky. Once again, I was putting lanolin on it as much as I could. I even tried putting a little neosporin on the crack, which now looked more like a gash. That didnt help either. Now, its still sore as can be, and just looks terrible. Now my right nipple is doing to same thing! I really dont think its thrush. We got thrush a couple months ago, and I have some left over cream from that Ive been using, and its not helping. My daughter doesnt have any white spots in her mouth, and she doesnt seem to have a yeast infection down below. She has been nursing for 15 months now. Ive had sore nipples several times, but never anything like this. Does it sound like it could be a baterial infection? I dont want to wean her, I was planning on nursing her until she is at least two, and she wont want to wean anyways. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

HOnestly, it sounds like thrush. Baby doesnt need to have white spots for it to be present. Go ahead and treat for thrush & you should see a rapid improvement.

Its temporary, and you should be able to knock it out with GV, Lotrimin AF, neosporin, and probiotics.

Let me know if you have the links for thrush treatment, otherwise I'll post them here

Sudden cracks after 15 months are not normal. It's either thrush, or she drastically changed her latch and suck. I doubt it's the second, so try treating for thrush with gentian violet. It can be very stubborn which is why your treatment may not be working.
For the crack itself, let your nipples air dry after every feeding, then express a little of your milk and rub it over the crack, if you need to, then let that dry. It will help the crack heal much faster.
