I noticed in the literature my ped gave us at our 2 month appt that bf babies need a vitamin D supplement. However, he didn't mention it at the appt, and I forgot to ask him. With the nicer weather, we have been getting out almost daily, and I let the sun hit him for about 15-20 minutes of the walk (not all at once though-5 minutes, here a couple minutes there, etc). Is the sun exposure enough or does he need a supplement?
Our Ped. told DH the same thing when he took my younger DS to his 4 month checkup. He gave DH a script for vit D supplement and DH filled it, but I've never used it. I just make sure he gets some sun each day instead. He's been fine and healthy so far, so I'll just continue that.
Thanks~*I:Makerinces*~ for my awesome siggy!!
Our ped told us the same thing around 2 months old. I never filled the script and Abigail is just fine. We barely got outside at all that winter and she never lacked vitamin D. I think it's a newer trend because formula adds vitamin D to be sure babies get it. We forget that our bodies and nature make sure everything works itself out.
