When do breastfed babies start sleeping longer stretches at night? We are almost 8 months old here and still wake up about twice a night. I have read that breastfed babies take longer to sleep through the night and just wanted to see what everyone's experience was.

Noelia started sleeping through the night about 3 weeks ago.She just turned 2 months old.She sleeps from 11pm to 7am (then goes back to sleep until 10:30-11am).I nurse her just after her bath at 10:30pm and she falls asleep then.
I asked her pedi about it on Friday because I didnt know if it was ok or not (in which case I would have started waking her) but he said it was fine and that I was lucky.
Im wondering if something like "sleeping habbits" are hereditary...DH and I are VERY deep sleepers and both of us could sleep for days if no one woke us up.My kids are exactly the same and all of them started sleeping through the night at a very early age.

Thank you SO much for my new siggy Julia (Julka)!
I honestly believe that it has a little to do with how the baby is fed and a lot to do with the baby. I wouldn't rule out genetics too. Both of my boys started sleeping longer stretches in the night when they were 2 months old. Eric was formula fed and woke once a night until he was about 8 months old. Daniel is breastfed and typically goes from 9pm-4 or 5am without waking (once in a while, he'll wake around 1 for a quick refill and be back asleep by 1:20). He's now 4 months old, has been doing that since about 2.5 months old.

Thank you Jaidynsmum for the siggy!
I agree that I think it has more to do with the baby although breastmilk does go through the system quicker so that would play a part too.
my oldest DD slept through the night (through the night I consider to be anywhere from 5-8 hours) at a young age. she's always been my sleep 12 hours awake 12 hours type of girl (hardly ever napped)
my 2nd DD was frequently awakening and constant nursing until she was 16-17 months and when I stopped nursing she was still up once a night until just recently (she's almost 3) now she's my 8 hour sleeper at night and takes a 3 hour nap in the middle of the day.
Benjamin is 11 months and he usually sleeps a 5-6 hour stretch in the beginning (I nurse or rock him to sleep) and then when he wakes up he comes into bed with me and he nurses off and on through the remainder of the night.
it's a developmental milestone that some babies meet earlier than others. just like walking etc. and teething etc. can throw it off too. if you'd like some peaceful ways to encourage less night waking Elizabeth Pantleys "The no-cry sleep solution" is a great resource.
My 3 year old still isn't sleeping through the night and has been a horrible sleeper her whole little life. My 12 year old was sleeping 12-6, ate and back out until 9 at 2 months old. My newest is almost 4 months old and still goes no more than 3 hours without waking to eat.
Caitlyn is a great sleeper already. SInce the day we brough her home from hospital she only wakes once at night to feed. I feed her A LOT during the day though, like every 2 hours she is hungry and wanting mummy. The last time i feed her is usually around 11 and we sleep till about 3, then she sleeps till about 7 or 8, this morning 9!
Kairi started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks... she tried to at 3, but I woke her up, because it just seemed weird that she slept 8 hours... the Dr. said it was okay and that if she was hungry, she would wake up.

Elizabeth Pantleys "no cry sleep solution for toddlers and preschoolers" has some fantastic ideas that we implemented over here, my almost 3 year old has always be my higher needs little one too!
My ds is 8 months old too. He will go through nights where he sleeps totally through...other nights he too wakes once or twice. I think it will lessen with time.
She started sleeping through the night at about 5 weeks. Now that shes teething its hit and miss And when she goes to bed is later and later....first three months was 9pm, then it was 1030pm until a couple weeks ago where one day shes just decided to stay up until 1am everyday.
Our older son was bottle fed with breast milk and slept 6-7 hours basically from birth. Our little guy is almost 6 weeks old and will sleep 5-7 hours at a time. Both were sleepy guys during the day as well as sleeping at night. Thankfully they are sleepy like me!
Brianna started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. Now she goes about 9-7. But yeah, it's common for BF babies to wake up in the middle of the night.
My 9 month old has yet to sleep through the night. He was going 4 hours without waking for a few weeks but that is over and now we are lucky to get 2 hour stretches. He doesn't always nurse when he wakes so I think it could be teething. He has no teeth yet so we tend to think all things are teething related
Loren's almost 10 months and he wakes up 1 or 2 times to nurse. Most of the time he doesn't really even wake fully up. Lately he's been more restless, tossing and turning, but he still doesn't really wake up unless I don't nurse him.
