I havent personally read this but Jack Newman is a Dr who is VERY educated in breastfeeding. The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book.

I have read several things from him on different sites and actually watched video clips of him helping women with breastfeeding...

Here is the sight. It has A LOT of useful information...

Dr Jack Newman's Breastfeeding Site

Also this time if you run into supply issues there are plenty of things you can do to help increase your supply. Power pumping, herbal supplements such as fenugreek and blessed thistle. Even oatmeal helps some women. I really like More Milk Plus it has fenugreek and blessed thistle and a couple of other milk increasing herbs (tastes like crap but works, they sell it in pill form as well but I have heard the liquid works better.) There is also a prescription you can take Reglan which I would recommend as a last resort if you need it.

I am not sure what your situation was last time but honestly most women think they have supply issues when they actually dont. I know I went through this. Heck I think most of us on this board go through that. I still question myself sometimes and my kid is so big he has rolls and we joke about him needing a training bra ha ha. Most of the time when you feel this way is during a growth spurt. You feel like they are eating all the time which makes you doubt your supply but in all actuality they are increasing your milk supply.

Good Luck and dont hesitate to run any questions by the ladies on this board. Everyone is SOOOOOOO helpful and chock full of good information and experiences. They really helped me when I was about to supplement because I thought Lawson wasnt getting enough.

I bought 3 books from a thrift store, and honestly they had a lot of the same stuff in them.

I liked the one written by La Leche League the best. It's called The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

Great advice! Another good book about breastfeeding in general is The Breastfeeding Book in the Sears' library collection. I like the Sears books a lot! www.kellymom.com also has some good advice on all aspects of feeding.

How were you labeled low supply? Like the PP said, it's easy to think or be labeled low supply when in reality the issue is cluster feeding (for growth), overuse of pacifiers, overuse of supplementation, and just sort of not clicking with it - I think we've all been there! I HIGHLY recommend trying out a sling for baby. My youngest was born 10 weeks premature and came home after 6 weeks in the hospital at 4lb 2oz. She had only gained 15 ounces while there, in six weeks! When she came home I refused to supplement - I kept her in a sling (we never liked the traditional cradle hold, what worked for us was having her upright like you'd see in a Snugli - even that would benefit you) and if she showed the slightest interest in nursing, I offered her the breast. Having her near my milk supply encouraged her to 'ask' more often, and the sight and feel of her on me encouraged my body to make more milk. Those first 2 weeks home, she gained more than a pound!

No matter what you decide, I think it's great that you're trying to educate yourself and improve your supply in an effort to continue your breastfeeding success!

I'm a fan of the nursing mothers companion by Kathleen Huggins. It's arranged so that it's easy to find everything.
