Dumbest comment you have heard about breastfeeding???

I actually had a nurse in the hospital tell me that I would have to supplement because I was small chested and would not be able to produce enough for Lawson.

This coming from a medical "professional" who worked on the mother baby floor at the hospital.

Anyone else had someone make some stinking comment that you just couldnt believe?

wow that's crazy!
I had my brother in laws wife comment to me about how some lady on an airplane wipped her boob out and breast fed a 7 month old (emphasis on the 7 month old part) and then she asked me how long people usually breast feed because she thought that was unheard of. It'll be interesting to see her in a few weeks when I visit and will be breast feeding my 8 month old plenty!

My sister asked if I could give Abigail a bottle to help her wean....this was a month ago! She doesn't have children, so I tried to overlook it, but I politely told her it's not common to start a 2 year old on a bottle even if you want to wean them. At this point, everyone just assumes I'm anxious to wean and can't understand why I'm content with the way things are.

I haven't hear too much... one aunt of mine gags about breastfeeding and says it's gross... she is real religious so I just told her that Jesus was breastfed and that shut her up

The other day I was talking to my favorite aunt (kids "Nana") and I was venting about Elliot not taking a bottle well and she told me it was probably time to wean him to a bottle! Then my mom said the same thing, saying he was too addicted to the boob

My sister actually looked at me on Sunday night and said, "you should probably wean Bryce sooner rather than later because the longer you go the harder it will be for him to wean. Plus you really shouldn't go much more longer because he doesn't take a bottle now and you're gonna want him to take one."

I haven't really gotten a lot... The worst I got was from my mom at a restaurant when Danny was hungry, she looked at me a little anxiously and asked, "You do have a bottle and stuff, right, so you don't have to ... you know ... whip it out right here?"

A friend of mine with 4 teenagers: "you're baby is huge, I cant get over how chubby she is especially her legs!! You're not giving her any formula or solids at ALL? AT ALL?? NOTHING?! *dumbfounded look*. I never breastfed my kids cause I didnt want to starve them. But from the looks of your baby that just, well...................*trail off changes subject*"

I also get the "you have to get her to take a bottle now (she hates them) cause when she gets teeth you have to sto and switch to formula" speech. Or I just have to get her switched cause "thats what you do".

seriously...some people are so ignorant!!

i have had 2 "older" ladies comment on how Sarah has chubby arms and legs and "really, that's all breast milk??"

and my grandma has told me that "its disgusting" and told me i should go somewhere to feed dd is private. meanwhile i'm in the privacy of my own home. she has also commented on how "i'm lazy because i don''t wash, sterilize, and prepare bottles of formula."

My MIL was against it at first, she and her whole family seemed to think there was something sexual about it.
She started to come around when she found out how much money we were saving, and now that Matilda is here and growing so well, she's more supportive, but I can tell she still doesn't get it, it's like she thinks it's a medicine now or something because she keeps asking me how much longer I have to give her breast milk... and Matilda is only 6 weeks old!

Wow, it's amazing to see how many people think that babies have to take a bottle! Do they realize that EVERYONE was exclusively breastfed up until about 100 years ago?

my in laws say the same thing!! I get the "When are you going to buy formula" or the "You should buy formula for the house in case you get really sick" speech. Well duh, that's why I pump everyday! I even started putting frozen BM in my in laws freezer so they would stop asking me about formula!

Nak...

Ive gotten that one too. Thats wwhen I say its actually best to bf while sick cause the baby gets my antibodies and wont get sick and if she does will be very mild. I think it strengthens their immune system too. Ive gotten sick as a dog once. Everyone got sick....except the baby. Cant say that aboyt the ff babies I know. I always win that argument

I usually get the your breasts are too big they are going to make too much milk and he will be over fed and have problems. Why is it that woman with big breasts automatically become the world supplier of an unneeeded surplus of breast milk. My mom also said that I need to stop this feeding on demand thing and get him on a schedule, uh hello he is two weeks old he has no schedule and feeding him when he is hungry hmmmm... I am crazy.
