For some reason the last few Days my LO wants to nurse for an hour or longer. Then she'll fall asleep and can go 2-3 hours till she wants to eat agan and then another hour feeding. Before I would feed her every 1 1/2 for 30 mins. And she does eat the whole hour until the end when she falls asleep....Is that ok? I know they say BF babies should eat 8-12 times a day. I dont think she's eating that many times. She seem's to be content and has enough wet and dirty diapar's....Ive heard as they get older they start to go longer between feedings. Does that mean they start to eat longer and then go longer between feedings....
The 8-12 is really an average, and few babies actually fall into the average - its more likely the baby will be way above that (like mine lol) or under that - hence giving the actual "average". It's like women's cycles lol - they "say" an average cycle is 28 days, but I dont know a single woman (not on BC) whose cycles are 28 days. I know lots of women whose cycles are 30, 25, etc... but i guess they all average out
Wet & Poopy diapers are your best indication though - if youre getting enough wet/poopy diapers (a total of 5 - 6 a day constitutes "enough") then your baby ise ating enough. I know *I* can't even eat on a schedule, I don't expect my baby to. I cahnge from day to day, and it's expected that a baby might as well.
I agree with Lala and Andrea. My little boy nursed for at least 45 min each session and would eat every hour, seemed like i never left the couch. He has since made his nursing sessions no more than 20 min unless he's tired. Your little one could be nursing for comfort too. Let you baby be your guide and just what the girls said...i won't repeat anymore.
Teagen used to change her patterns all the time...it was frustrating because I worried about it all the time! And it was perfectly normal~!
