Lawson within the last week has started eating every 3 to 4 or 5 hours instead of every 2-3 hours...

I still give him the same amount to eat when I send bottles to daycare and he just isnt eating as much. Friday his "teacher" had to wake him up and feed him at 2:10 because he hadnt eaten since 9:30...

When he first cut back he was still eating from me as often. Now he hasnt eaten since 7:15 and doesnt seem interested in eating at all.

Last week I gave him cereal for breakfast after he nursed he ate less than a tablespoon for two mornings. Havent given it to him since, since he doesnt seem to care for it.

So what's with the cut back on eating but no increase in amounts taken in? I am worried about him and my milk supply.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Thats actually pretty normal. In fact, most BF babies dont fluctuate much on the total # of ounces per day by that much, simply b/c your milk tailors to meet his needs, including caloric value. So hes getting enough calories, despite eating somewhat less, simply b/c your milk is tailored to what he currently needs. Of course, routines, etc can make minor impacts - if he was eating more before b/c of a change in routine, being sick, a growth spurt, etc - when it calms down it usually calms WAY down

All is normal

It could be anything, from teething to possibly an ear infection. Some babies will decrease thier eating if they are in pain, especially with ear infections. Another possibility is that he's coming off a growth spurt and is in the sleepy stage of it, or he's learning a new skill which you may see a decrease in eating during.
It sounds like he is still eating, and unless he seems to be in pain or has a fever, I wouldn't worry about it. Your supply will adjust one way or another, as his nursing patterns change (which will happen a lot in the next 8+ months).

My little guy is about the same age as yours and we're going through the same thing. He wants NOTHING to do with the boob when he wakes up in the morning. He still usually eats once during the night (around 3-4am) and there have been days over the last week that I can't get him to nurse until 8:45 or 9:00 before his first nap! He seems to only want to settle down to eat if he's sleepy. Otherwise, there's too much he wants to be doing or looking at to take the time to eat. The rest of the day he's been going 3-4 hours between feedings and sleeping quite a bit as well. His nights have stayed pretty much the same...up once to eat over 12 hours so I figure if he was missing out on something he wouldn't be sleeping that well. I too have given him cereal occasionally but not recently since he hasn't been nursing as often. I figure if he's not that into it, what's the point! He's 17-18ish pounds so he's growing just fine so I'm trying not to worry about it!

Count your blessings, cause if my baby had her way I'd never wear a shirt

I never paid attention to times or how often she ate, but I have noticed that shes not eating as often as when she was smaller, or for as long.

In the beginning Lukas would nurse 8 or so times a day. Now he nurses 4-5/day and then takes his nightly bottle. Maybe he is more efficient now too, bc he only nurses for 10-15 minutes or so and before it would be 20-25.

now that Hayden is 8 months he nurses about every 4 hours for 5 minutes or so and since he still gets wet/poopy diapers I'm not worried..
