Did you find it easier to set short-term goals, such as "I will EBF for 3 weeks" and then add another goal each time you met one? Or was it more helpful to just say "I want to EBF for at least one year"?

Or did you even set goals?

I've set goals in 3 month increments for myself... I've just passed the 9 month EBF mark, now I am focused on EBF to 12 months...

before I had Cadie I figured I would go 6 months. But after a few weeks I knew I loved it, and I stopped thinking in terms of time. We will go until she weans herself.

I first set a goal of 6 weeks (I've heard it's the hardest to get to that point). We just made it to 3 months. Now we are looking towards making it to 6 months.

I made time goals just because everyone said I needed to in order to "get through it" but we're three weeks into it and I really haven't thought about those goals. Breastfeeding has just become something I do to care for my baby, and just as I would never say "I'm trying to make sure I change diapers until he is at least six months" I don't see the need to do it for breastfeeding either. I enjoy it, and don't see it as something I need to get through.

Maybe it's because I've had a fairly easy time of it, and maybe I'll have to go back to these goals if I ever encounter problems, but for now we are just kind of sailing towards the horizon. I do have other bfing goals, like last week I NIP for the first time and that was a major goal met for us. I'd like to get nursing down well enough that I don't have to hide in a corner with a blanket over us. I'd like to successfully nurse in bed without making a mess everywhere... these are my goals, not temporal ones.

I don't plan on giving Myah cow's milk so I set a goal of 2 years when I was pregnant.

For one who wasn't going to BF (because I was not educated) and didn't make the decision until I was eight months pregnant to BF, I LOVE it. I did set short goals in the beginning. At first I was only going to BF until I went back to work, then 3 months, then 4 months and now I quit setting goals. I love BFing and I'll be so sad the day that it ends.

I started off saying a year and then found myself feeling like I needed to set smaller goals only because I have to pump 3-4 times a day. If I didnt have to do that it would be a lot easier. Pumping is time consuming for me and makes me feel like I cant put as much into my work as I should, plus meetings interfere with my pumping times ALOT which stresses me out. So now I set 3 month goals. This makes me feel like I am accomplishing the task of ending pumping eventually. I will more than likely nurse when with him after he is 12 months if he isnt ready to give it up but once he hits 12 months, I will no longer be pumping.

I never set goals. I knew I was gonna bf when I was pregnat but never thought about for how long Im "supposed" to do it for. Thats when I started coming here and educating myself. If it wasnt for JM I would probably listen to all the "advice" I have gotten IRL.

I dont know when we'll stop, probably when she weans herself but I can see that being two years or more, this child is seriously addicted to the boob I think her not taking a dummy has a lot to do with it.

I originally said i would EBF for the first 6 months and build up a freezer supply to take us to 9 months. Then i acutally BF'd and changed it to EBF for at least a year. I do think i measure my milestones by 3 month increments though. So we just made it to our 6 month milestone and are working toward our 9 month and so on. I honestly would rather self-wean but DH isn't a fan of nursing very long past a year.

I just had my baby 2 weeks ago my goals are set weekly for the first 6 weeks. From there I plan to set up my goals for every 3 months.

I do pump and freeze and I'm also pumping for my 1 year old. I did give her formula for the first year but I dont want her to have cows milk and since she's lactose intolerant anyways I figure BM is even better for her.

I think my ultimate goal is to make it to 12 months but if he wants to go longer than so be it. I dont want to deny my children of what they want. I do think that if he self weans at 12 months than I will keep pumping for him and My DD.
