It's been said that oatmeal can increase your milk supply, and there are a lot of breastfeeding moms who can agree with that! No one is really sure how exactly it works, but even KellyMom agrees that it may have an effect on your supply: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/oatmeal.html

Below are several recipes made with oatmeal, for a yummy and easy way to try to give your supply a little boost!

Monster cookies - Submitted by Kristenpie

Ingredients
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup peanut butter
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
3 cups rolled oats
6 ounces M&Ms

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Beat sugar, brown sugar and butter until creamy.
Add eggs, vanilla and baking soda and mix well.
Add peanut butter and mix.
Stir in oats, M&Ms.
Place teaspoon full of dough on lightly greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until lightly brown on the edges.


Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chewy-Chocola...ies/Detail.aspx

Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Mix in the quick oats, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ingredients
3/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins

Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In large bowl, cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla until fluffy. Stir together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in oats and raisins. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Cool slightly, remove from sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.


Applesauce-Raisin-Oatmeal Muffins - Submitted by Amy B.
I've heard many times that oats and protein can help a lot with breastfeeding, so I found this recipe with my daughter that I fell in love with. I thought I'd share it for anyone interested. I will post the exact way I make it, but you could use white flour and no walnuts.

Ingredients
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 1/4 c. whole wheat flour
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 c. applesauce
1/2 c. skim milk
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 egg white

Directions
Combine oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and soda. Add applesauce, milk, brown sugar, oil and egg white. Add raisins and chopped walnuts to taste. Mix until dry ingredients are moist. Make topping and add on top (see below). Bake at 400 degrees for 17-18 minutes.

Topping (I tend to make a bit more, because this is my favorite part):
1/4 c. oatmeal
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. melted butter

Combine together and put on top of muffins.

***I pop these in the freezer until I want to use them. I generally grab two, put a little spray butter on top, and pop them in the microwave until warm. These are easy to eat while actually feeding your baby. I also double the recipe to make 24 servings.

That monster cookie recipe is missing any flour...not sure how much to add but that doesn't seem right. We add the flaxseed meal and brewers yeast for a little extra kick in the milk makers!

Most monster cookie recipes seem to not have flour. Mine are baking, but so far seem perfect! I need to stop eating the dough now...

I'm posting this because I have noticed engorgement after eating just a few ( ) of these on more than one occasion now...

No bake chocolate-peanut butter cookies

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/3 c. cocoa
1 stick butter
pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. rolled oats/old-fashioned oats (not quick or instant)

In saucepan, bring sugar, milk, peanut butter, cocoa, butter, and salt to a boil. Boil, stirring constantly, for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Mix. Add oats and mix. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper or foil. Allow to cool.

OOPS! Can't have chocolate cookies with no cocoa!

(I hope I didn't forget the cocoa when I sent this recipe to my brother the other day lol)

I found a recipe that is Pumpkin Nut Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies.
Pumpkin Nut Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies!
Ingredents:

4 c. whole wheat flour
3 c. old-fashioned oats (uncooked)
2 tsp. baking soda
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. sea salt
1 1/2 c. unsalted butter (softened)
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
4 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. flaxseed meal
2-4 tbsp. brewer’s yeast
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 16oz. can of pumpkin
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small bowl combine the water and the flaxseed meal; let sit for 5 minutes.
In one bowl, combine flour, baking soda, yeast, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
Slowly beat in the sugars.
Add vanilla, egg, and flaxseed mixture. Beat until smooth.
Add pumpkin and mix well.
Slowly add your dry ingredients and beat until well mixed.
Stir in oats, chocolate chips, and nuts. (Tip: I use my hands in order to get the oats completely covered. If they’re not covered, your cookies will have dry, flaky, uncooked oats in them.)
Place dough in 1.5 inch lumps, 1-2 inches apart, with a medium scoop. You can use a spoon, but the scoop makes awesome looking cookies!
Bake for 13-15 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Remove from oven and transfer from cookie sheet immediately to a cooling rack.
Yields 6 Dozen.

Protein Pancakes

1/2 Cup catmeal
1/2 Cup cottage cheese
3 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract

Pulse the oatmeal in a food processor or blender for a few seconds until it is the consistency of corn meal. Add the cottage cheese and egg whites and mix. You can also add protein poweder, cinnamon, sweetener, etc here. Cook in a preheated skillet like regular pancakes.

My monster cookies aren't supposed to have flour... but a warning that they will not turn out with natural "healthy" peanut butter! You need to use a traditional brand. I made this with an organic, unprocessed brand and they were flat and hard as rocks. Just an FYI.
