My DS is 10.5 months old. Lately he is only nursing about 4 times a day... first thing in the morning, morning nap, afternoon nap, and bedtime. During the naps he tends to nurse on and off the whole hour or two. He sleeps through the night so there is no nursing at night.

I'm wondering if he is getting enough. He's really not into solids and doesn't seem to eat a lot of "real" food yet. He totally rejects being spoon fed, so the only solids he gets are table foods that he sort of chews and spits out. He seems to be swallowing them more lately but it's really hard to tell.

So, for those of you with older babies... does this sound normal? I, of course, always nurse him when he asks... but he doesn't really ask until it's either time for a nap or time for bed. I guess if he was hungry, he'd let me know?

Also... since I'm nursing less, I'm noticing that I'm NEVER engorged anymore. I never feel full. Is this okay? I'm kind of paranoid that I'm going to lose my milk supply. I'd like to nurse for at least a year, and hopefully let him self wean.

Thanks!

I rarely got engorged with my son (or daughter for that matter) after 6months. My son started self weening at 11mo so was nursing around 3-4x's a day around that point. My daughter is addicted to the boob and nurses upto 6x's a day in the day and sometimes once at night (She'll be 13mo next week)

8-10+ times a day i think at this age 4-5 is normal.

Sounds just like us and my DS just turned 11 mo. He usually nurses after waking in the morning, morning nap, afternoon nap, after he wakes from nap (5pm) and bedtime. But, yesterday he skipped the 5pm nursing- so only 4x. He does nurse once during the night though. And he eats 3 meals a day.

I wondered too if he was getting enough, but I think he would let me know if he wanted more. Since you nurse on demand I wouldn't worry. Just keep offering food and nurse whenever he wants.

Luke is 10 months old and I have to work to get 4 nursing sessions in per day- we have been doing that for about a month now. He nurses first thing in the morning, when he wakes up from morning nap (12ish), before afternoon nap (3ish) and before bed (7:30). He's not been to into solids until recently either. I don't get engorged anymore, and I wake up in the morning after 12+ hours of not nursing and I'm still not engorged. I think everything's OK supply-wise though. It's been like this for a while and if I pump for a missed feeding, I still get 4-5 oz. So that's OK.
