I'm having some problems with my 7.5 week old daughter nursing and wanted to see if you all had any input. Sometimes she simply refuses to take the breast. Not only will she refuse, but when it's offered she will SCREAM. Even if she's giving hungry signs. Then, when she finally will take it she does not want to come off and will nurse for as long as I let her or until she falls into a deep sleep. She's been super cranky and having really nasty screaming fits the last few evenings. I'm just not sure what is happening...she's always been an awesome nurser, and it's always been a way to comfort her when she's upset as well.

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

I have no clue..
I know with Bailey she does this, quite often btw and it is always a sign she is tired..

Now if she starts screaming at the boobie, i put her down or cuddle her for a bit and try 15-20 minutes later, eventually she eats right then goes to sleep.. It's working for us..

Could she have gas or be uncomfortable from something else (reflux)?

Also, are you catching her early hunger cues?

Here's a link that might help you narrow down what it could be: kellymom.com :: My baby is fussy! Is something wrong?

Logan used to do that sometimes. I never really figured out what was wrong, I just toughed it out and often cried. It did pass, though! One reason that my sister pointed out was that he might have been simply too worked up to latch on properly.

Good luck, hon, and please KUP! You are doing such an awesome job!

After lots of trial & error, I figured it out when my DD does this, she's tired. I rock her to sleep or swaddle her first & then rock her to sleep.

Thanks everyone!! Liv hasn't been doing this as much lately, but I've definitely noticed that she does it when she's overly tired. I've been putting her to sleep and then right when she wakes up she wants to nurse.

It's so weird though, because nursing is something that usually comforts her.

My guess would've been something bothering her-reflux, possible ear infection...but sounds like you have it figured out
