My daughter is sleeping through the night quite regularly these days, I feed her at about 9pm and then I wake her up at 6am to feed her (we're getting on a routine for when I go back to work next week). When I wake up in the morning my breasts are SUPER full. She really only needs to eat off of one side, then I have to pump the other because it is really uncomfortable. Or like this morning, I had her eat for 15 mins on the first side and then switched her over to take some of the pressure off the other side and just pumped at what I hope to be my pumping break time of 9am when I'm at work.
My main question is this... is it ok for me to wait until 9 to fully empty both breasts? Should I wake up in the middle of the night just to pump so I'm not so engorged in the morning when she is ready to eat? Ideally I'd like to do what I did this morning and have her eat from both sides and then just pump at 9, but I don't want my supply to suffer.
Sorry for the long-windedness, and thanks for reading if you made it through!
If you pump your breasts will always be full at night, supply and demand. If you want to pump overnight to get extra milk, that is up to you, but if you do not, i would either not pump, or just hand express a small amount of milk to relieve the pressure.
