DS is 5 days old and I noticed today that my nipples are bleeding. I know of ways to try to get them to heal and if I still have trouble, I'm going to talk to the local LLL.

Just wondering, is it bad for him to drink the blood? I feel really bad about it, especially when it's right after he eats and he spits it up. .

It happens. I would contact your local LLL to check the latch. If it is really bad, you can put neosporin on in between feedings and wipe it off prior to feedings. It will probably heal it up the fastest or even All Purpose Nipple Ointment (or Triple Nipple Cream) which is a script your MW or DR can give you.

Thanks! I think we've been through the worst (hopefully). It really freaked me out to see blood coming out of his mouth.

I never had that happen, but had blood come out once while pumping. Totally freaked me out. According to the wisdom of the internet, it is ok for them to get a little blood.

I had a lot of cracking and bleeding when Kolbie was born. Only once did the blood actually trickle out of her mouth That was freaky! Mostly she just spit it back up, which also was a little freaky until I remembered what was going on and that it was okay. Gross, but okay.
