My dd is 3 weeks. I've been pumping to bottle Fred her since I couldn't get her to latch
But she's now got a good suck reflex.
I saw an LC today who helped me get her to bf by using a Medela nipple shield.

I'm stoked!
Anyway here is the question.
How does everyone handle bf'ing baby when you aren't home?
Who uses nursing covers and which ones?
I'm looking at ordering a bebe au lait cover but considering they are $30 I'd like info on them before ordering.

Thanks!

Oh does anyone else have suggestions or experience on weaning baby off the nipple shield and onto your actual nipple?

Also I've been pumping about 5 oz per two to three hours and she only eats maybe 3.
So I've been freezing at minimum 10 oz per day.

Should I continue pumping some to avoid engorgement and also to be able to keep freezing? I'm not sure why I feel the need to stockpile so much but I have a fear that I won't be able to make milk at some point and I'd like to feed her breast milk as long as possible and I'd like to avoid wasting any.
So should I still pump some between feelings and if so how much?

If you are not going back to work anytime soon or ever, i would not feel the need to stockpile too much. when baby is first born, you have an oversupply and it will even out as the baby gets older (3-8 weeks). If you keep pumping, you will continue to have this oversupply, it is really up to you what to do.

as far as covers, i never used one. you could always use a blanket. i know a lot of women use udder covers.

I use a blanket to cover up when in public but saw a deal on covers here:
FREE Nursing Cover from Udder Covers! Just pay $11.95 to ship. » The Krazy Coupon Lady

Congrats on latching!! That is wonderful!

Like mgm said its up to you how much you feel you need to pump and freeze. I EBF and pump 2x's a day and freeze an average on 6 oz. I have to return to work in 1 month and have a large stock pile.

it took about 2 months for my supply to even out. I had a very big over supply when the babies were born. It had to stop pumping for awhile. Even now i cannot pump more then twice a day without creating an over supply.

I dont cover when i nurse but i have seen these really cool covers that also fit on the car seat to block the sun from the babies. I think i saw it at babies r us.
