I have a lot of issues with my MIL thinking the babies need to have BM from a bottle. I want to EBF. Can you all help me come up with reasons that they should not have bottles.

I dont think bottles are bad, i just dont want to use them. I'm a SAHM and have no need.

for example...

can cause baby to be gassy
possible increase risk of ear infections

thanks

yes it can increase gassiness. how about the most important reason- for every bottle of BM given, you have to PUMP, ugh, i hated to pump.

There are other ways to bond with baby besides feeding the baby, if that is her concern.

babies can also get overfed with the bottle as well.

Also the washing and prepping the bottles. I hated that! Nursing is no muss, no fuss. lol Also - wasted milk! If I pumped and put it in a bottle for her when I went out and she didn't drink all of it we had to dump the rest. So sad!!

And mostly there's just no need for it. Anytime someone suggested pumping/bottle feeding with Kate I'd just shrug and say I don't need to. Why do extra work for no benefit? Makes no sense. They're my boobies, I get to decide what to do with them. LOL

I think she's just wanting you to let her feed the baby. My in-laws were this way. I caved and let them and I really wish I wouldn't have since it's affected my supply ever since.

Just keep changing the subject every time she brings it up by telling her something new the babies did that day. She'll drop it eventually.

In a few months, they'll be old enough so she can feed them some solids. If you're gonna do any BLW, that's waaaay more fun than a bottle any day.

This!

It took me so much longer to pump. I would rather be attached to my baby than tied down by a machine! And wasting the leftover milk made me want to cry. Tell her that it's really a lot more work for you and it won't help you and the baby at all.
