i sent this to my friend who works at WIC in Utah. She said she knows the family and the girl is very tiny and that there was probably a need to be concerned, but calling DCFS was a bit overboard. I am waiting to find out how small she was.......
And that doctor didn't think perhaps she should come in regularly to be weighed, fed, and then weighed again to see how much she was actually getting? Or checked to make sure she didn't have any gastrointestinal issues?
Nope, let's just say, stop breastfeeding and everything will be fine!
That is ridiculous! My daughter is in the 5th %tile and my pediatrician didnt even bat an eyelash, in fact she seemed more concerned at making sure I knew it was perfectly fine than anything else. But from what I have heard from others plenty of pediatricians would be concerned she was in the 5th %tile.
This kinda makes me nervous about finding a pediatrician when we move down to Salt Lake City in a month or two...
I am curious at exactly how small the child is, but either way I'm sure there are other things that could have been done before calling in the authorities!
Good for her for sticking to her guns and going to see doctors who had the correct info and the ability to show that her breastmilk is the best thing for her baby. Makes me so angry when doctors just tell a mom to stop breastfeeding.
