Hi ladies!

A friend of mine has a 6-week old baby and is having lots of bumps in the road of her bfing journey.

The latest problem that she has is atrophic vaginitis caused by low estrogen levels due to bfing. She is having a lot of burning/itching symptoms and is very uncomfortable. The only medical treatment available for it is estrogen creams or vaginal tablets. These can be absorbed through the skin and get into the breast milk, so she doesn't want to use them.

Anyone experience this? Any ideas for natural remedies that are safe for bfing??

Thanks everyone!

Are the creams considered safe on Kellymom? Tell her to eat lots of Activia yogurt (as in 3 cups a day) and the natural probiotics will start to help. This works for stomach upset due to antibiotics as well.

it should be safe to use in breastfeeding, estrogen creams are commonly prescribed post partum for poorly healing tears and extreme vaginal dryness.

I had a similar issue and used antibiotic vaginal tablets...thrush on and off ever since! Make sure she takes some form of probitotic if they do decide on antibiotics!
