Almost 17.5m and going strong! He is nursing 2-5 times a day, but I expect that to pick up once baby sister arrives in a few short weeks.

How does one nurse an older child and a baby too? Does your body still produce colostrum after the new baby is born?

I thought your milk changes consistency once the baby is older? Like gets thicker?
Just trying to understand how the body makes the right thing for different age babies?

At some point early in my pregnancy my milk dried up. He dry nursed until I started producing colostrum. After she is born milk will be made for a newborn nutrient wise I believe. And I will just nurse them both. I have heard the older nursling might chunk up a bit the first few months just like a newborn/infant.

^^that is really cool. I know the only person I knew who intended to tandem nurse...her son was mad about the milk drying up and never went back to nursing. But I see how if they persist through that stage, they will be able to nurse alongside their sibling. I was wondering about the logistics of it too. Good to know.

He wasn't happy about my milk drying up, but it helped him eat solids. He was around 11.5m at the time and barely touched any table foods, and never liked puree stuff. We have him on soy milk for severe lactose issues, and he seems to get boob right after he has some milk, after his nap, and if he isn't feeling well. I am very excited to start this new journey with him, and so glad we are going to be able to make my goal of 2yr with him.
