So, I have nursed for 9 months this time and 11 months with my last child...and I have never had this happen.

When DS nurses, I get a weird tingly-burning sensation on the underside of the nipple. It's there when he is not nursing, but it hurts more when he is eating. Thankfully, he is quick and I can get through a whole nursing session. But it like, makes me want to tighten my belly, and is almost like a pins-and-needles sensation. WTH?

Any ideas? I don't see anything odd about the nipple at all. And I would blame it on teeth (he has his bottom two) if it didn't hang around even though he wasnt nursing.

Its only one side, but we only single-side nurse....so I don't know that it will tell you anything.

My first thought is thursh.

When I would get thrush I would get no other symptoms but the burning nipple pain! Kenn never got it in her mouth either, thank God!

That was my guess as well. I had a lot of issues with yeast in the beginning, I started taking probiotics everyday and it cleared us right up!

could be thrush if it is a burning or it feels like glass in the nipple.

Hmmm. Three votes for thrush. I guess I will be calling the doc. It does feel like glass in there. And I don't see anything in kierans mouth, so maybe he doesn't have it (fingers crossed). Do I take antibiotics? Or can I treat it myself somehow? I guess I have some reading to do.

Thanks ladies!
I truly had no clue what it could have been. Thrush would not have crossed my mind, since I hear about it with little babies but never older ones.

feeling like broken glass is how they generally refer to the pain of thrush. have you taken any antibiotics or done anything differently lately?

Try adjusting your latch maybe (if its not thrush). I was treated for thrush and was still in pain to realize we were relaxing into an incorrect latch.
