So my son is almost 9 months old, and I got my first period a month ago. He nursed almost exclusively up to when I got my period and even now, eats very little solids each day. He nurses every 2-3 hours all day (still) and at least twice over night....I have to be honest, I'm a bit miffed that I got my period and my fertility back regardless.

Anyone else get AF back early-ish while BFing despite having a frequently nursing babe?

9 months seems to be the late side of average, from what it seems. I have a friend to EBF round the clock and got her period back 2 months after her child was born!

Okay, that is REALLY unfair for your friend! I know so many who BF and went a year or more before getting their period back.

generally when people start to pump, start solids, or the baby sleeps thru the night, that is when their AF returns.

I don't believe I have gotten a real period yet, but when I miss birth control pills I will have bleeding. My daughter is a year, only gets the boob and doesn't really eat much food.

My period returned at 18 months both times. The first time I thought it was because DD1 came off a 3 month nursing strike but now I doubt it. This time around I didnt notice any change in nursing that might have triggered it. At 19 months DD2 is 80-90% breastfed.

I got my period back at 8 months PP both times. In each instance, I was still BFing every 2 hrs round the clock on average. With my first, I did start her on solids and supplemented a bottle bc of supply issues (she had colic and I was under an extreme amount of stress). I conceived my DD2 on the 3rd cycle.

With my second, she has had no bottles or supplementation and she hardly eats any solids even now. I am charting this time around and have discovered that my more intensive breastfeeding with her IS having an effect on my fertility since I now have short luteal phases that would make it very difficult to conceive.
