My baby is 6 days old and my breasts are SO engorged they are sore to the touch! He is eating every 2.5 hours and has a good latch. I've tried cold packs and pain pills, and I've pumped a few times but I am not sure if I should keep pumping because I don't want my body to think I need that much milk.

Any ideas what else I can do?

I believe you just have to wait it out. Pumping will just make your body think it needs to make that much.

It will even out!

When I was engorged when my milk was coming in I would put and ice pack on for 10 minutes then pump that breast and nurse from the other, then switch for the next feeding. I also would put the ice pack on before nursing as well. I never had issues with making to much milk and I only did it for a couple days untill the engourgment was gone. It worked great for me.
