Well I have not been on this board since 2010 when my first son was born and bf'ing did not work out for us I have just had my second son on March 21st and so far I feel pretty good about it I do have some questions though and I am hoping maybe I can find some insight here.

1. I am a SAHM but I got a pump b/c there are times I like to go running or to gym classes and will need DH to feed LO. I have read so much online and yet am still so confused as to when you pump as a SAHM. Do I do it at some point before he eats? after? One breast? both? etc.

I used to pump when it was most convenient for me. That was in the evening after kiddo was asleep and I had managed to rest and relax for a little while. I might have gotten more per time if I had pumped in the morning but evening worked better. I probably pumped both breasts because I have never had overflowing milk supply so I have to work it a bit. If first time didnt yield a lot of milk I tried again an hour or two (and a big drink of water) later.

After a feeding can work well, or if baby only takes one side at a feeding, you could pump the other side at the same time. I also used to pump right before bedtime (after LO was already asleep).

I have found that I get more at night after the kids are in bed. Supposedly your supply is less at night time but I think because it is finally quiet and I am more calm when pumping when there is no noise or kids fighting that I am able to pump more since I am more at ease. Otherwise, I do it when I can or if I notice that DS hasn't nursed in his usual time frame because he's taking a rather long nap compared to what he normally does.

Your milk supply is generally the highest in the morning, so for me, i would pump one side while DD nursed on the other in the morning.
