hi! i'm due in a week or so with baby #2. i BF DS until he self-weaned at 26 months. 2 questions:

1. with DS, i stayed a 34B throughout my pregnancy and BFing. this time, i'm up to a D and scared that they will get even bigger when my milk comes in! did this happen to anyone else? does it correlate at all with milk production? i made enough for DS but struggled to keep up while pumping at work after 9 months (but i did it!!!).

2. has anyone pumped right away to establish an oversupply? b/c of the supply drop i had with DS, i'd like to have more of a freezer stash this time (i will return to work FT at 12 weeks). i'm thinking about pumping 1-2x/day, immediately after nursing from the get go. i know it's generally recommended to establish BFing first, but i've been through this before and think in my situation a bit of an oversupply would be a benefit. thoughts?

1. My boobs got bigger with #1, but I don't really think it correlates to supply...at least not for me.

2. I started pumping right away this time. For one thing, I wasn't allowed to BF right away because my little girl was on oxygen and couldn't nurse. Once we started bf, I kept on pumping, mostly after her early morning feeding, and also hand expressing an ounce or two here & there throughout the day. Like you, I struggled with supply after several months of pumping for #1, and I wished I'd taken advantage of my oversupply in the beginning last time. So this time, that's what I've done. I go back to work in a couple of weeks, and I probably have 700 oz (haven't counted recently) in my deep freeze. I'm very glad, and it's worked out well for us--no problems.

congrats Tela!!!!! You will generally make more milk wtih each subsequent pregnancy, so hopefully it is an easier go this time around. Weren't you also one of the moms who nursed on one side only? Or am i confusing you? I pumped from day one because i went back to work at 5 weeks PP. You can pump on one side while nursing on the other, this always was easiest for me.

hi meredith! you're still here! yes, i gave up on my left altogether since it was never a good producer and BF from the right only for the last 1+ years of our nursing relationship. it's nice to hear that most women make more milk with subsequent pregnancies. sounds like my plan of pumping early on should work to get a bit of a stash and help production. it's amazing how i'm not stressed at all this time! i'm looking forward to BFing again but am already dreading the pump, lol.
