Hello mommies! I am due any day now!!!!!!!! Well I have a question. Since being pregnant I have gained 43 pounds before pregnancy I weighed 101lbs. My question is if I breast feed will all of my weight go away? I'm not being selfish I want to breast feed for at least for the six weeks but at 101lbs I looked as if I was about to fly away because I was so thin. I can tell that I've gained weight in my hips and thighs area. So I guess my question is....... Have you other ladies kept your extra hips and boobs while breast feeding?
With #1 I gained 55-60lbs. I lost the weight VERY slowly. I lost 20lbs initially (baby, fluids, swelling, etc), and then the rest of it came off in tiny bits over the course of two and a half years. I was breast-feeding that whole time. I did eventually lose it all and then some, though.
With #2 I gained 39lbs. I had a lot less swelling, so initially I lost about 10lbs. I'm about 7 months post-partum and I've lost another 15lbs since then, for a total of 25 so far. I wouldn't say the weight is just falling off, but it's coming off faster than it did with #1. I can already fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans, which took much longer to do after #1.
Congrats, by the way, and good for you for wanting to breast feed! I hope it goes well for you. Definitely come back if you have questions or just need support. It can be a lot of work in the beginning, but it can also be so rewarding. And I agree that it's definitely possible to work and continue the breastfeeding relationship--I pumped at work with #1 until 12 months, and then we kept BF until nearly 2.5 years. And I'm still pumping at work with #2 at nearly 7 months.
I was a little too small before my babies too. With my first two, I usually got back to an ideal size within 4 months without ever trying or paying attention, but then lost too much later, after i stopped breastfeeding, as if nature helped me hold on to the extra reserve pounds needed to make milk. Which sounds like what you want.
With my last, i gained only 30, and came home only 10 lbs up from pre-pregnancy but then actually gained 5-10 lbs in the first postpartum months as if making up for the fact that i didn't have quite enough reserves left from pregnancy. So again, nature kept me from 'flying away' while breastfeeding.
I personally think when anyone says breasfeeding causes weightloss, they are just trying to convince you to do it, lol, and entirely missing the real point of doing it and how it still requires you to have adequate fat.
And i bet you will enjoy your new figure.
