Lately, I've been having issues with my right nipple being sore when Kaiden nurses. As far as I can tell, he is latching fine, and I have no bruising, cracking, etc. My nipples look completely normal... But, after he's been nursing for a couple minutes, it really starts to sting! It almost feels like it's being pinched? Hard to explain... Occasionally, I notice it on my left side too, but a LOT more often (pretty much any time he nurses that side) on my right.

Anyone know why this could be? He still falls asleep when he nurses, and I don't take him off until he breaks the latch of falls off himself. Could it be that I'm just leaving him on there too long? I'll also fall asleep at night when we're in bed and he's nursing, perhaps he's just sucking too much once he falls asleep? Anyone else had to experience this, or know what I can do about it? I still nurse him on both sides, but, it's really starting to become quite uncomfortable when he nurses that side!

When Liliana goes for long stretches my nipples certainly get super sore and can stay that way for a few days. Not sure if it helps for this type of pain but I express a little milk on my nipple and areola and then let it air dry. I hope it gets better for you.

I don't know what's going on, but I do know that with my dd that we went through a few weeks that one of my nipples were really sore -- I had originally thought she had a lazy latch but I watched and relatched often and that wasn't the problem. Then it went away as quickly as it had started.

I often find that TJ's latch is so strong that I am sore during and after nursing. A LC looked at it and said it was fine, but I think that he will bump his bottom gums on me and that causes the pain. I sometimes just have to keep trying to relatch him when it hurts too much. Good luck.
