I have some breastmilk that is frozen and was pumped while I had thrush. I know I have to boil it before using it to kill the thrush but I had some questions.....

1. How long do I boil it for?

2. Do I boil it, let it cool and then serve? Or do I boil it and then put it in the fridge? I know it has to be used within 24 hrs but I wasn't sure which route to go

If you boil breastmilk it will kill all the good stuff in it. I would not boil i and then put it in the fridge if you decide to take that root..then you will just have to heat it up again and you are only supposed to heat breastmilk once. You can mix the 'thursh milk' and good milk half and half..if you boil it I think you have to just get it up to boiling..heres a site that could be useful and has different options as to what to do:

Yea, if you boil or put it in the microwave it kind of "zaps" out all the good stuff in BM. I hope you find something that works for you!

Boiling will remove or denature all the good stuff in breastmilk (break down the protein and sugars, etc.) Wouldn't the freezer have killed off the thrush anyhow?

If you do boil, be sure to put it in the fridge right away because breastmilk that's been frozen (and then boiled) will no longer be anti-infective, so you want to make sure bacteria doesn't colonize it. Don't leave it at room temp for much longer than 1-2 hours.

Best wishes!
