Eli has been a good sleeper for the most part. He usually wakes 2x a night to eat but goes back to sleep. This week, however, he has woken up for his 2 or 3 am feeding and won't fall back to sleep for over 2 hours! I'm feeling really worn out and finally broke down and sobbed this morning.

Any other babies doing this? Do you all have any advice?

Tired and cranky!
Kim

Do you keep the lights dim, avoid talking to him and avoid eye contact (they find eye contact stimulating so it'll wake them up more if you make eye contact), avoid diaper changes if possible.

There have been times where Sierra hasnt wanted to go back to sleep so I would put her in her swing and lay on the couch to get a few Zzzz's. I'm sure you dont want to ignore him but I'm sure your not the best mommy, person, wife in the world when you've only have a few hours sleep.

Are you drinking any caffeine, chocolate or sugar as a snack before bed that might be going into your milk and keeping him awake?

we nurse laying down so when my little one gets up and wants to stay up (which usually happens between 4 & 6 am), i also just try to snuggle her, and Ill admit now I sometimes use a pacifier to keep her calm (when Im sure shes had enough to eat & wont nurse anymore).

Occasionally - ive also headed to the living room, kept the lights low, put her in the swing and took to the couch.

We stopped doing diaper changes at night all together unless we knew she had a poopy diaper (she rarely does at night), b/c afterwards she was always wide awake.

We also skip burping at night now.

I don't turn the lights on, only a nightlight, no diaper changes (unless there's a big poopie, which is very rare), and I don't even burp him anymore. The other night when I *had* to do a 2am diaper change, he woke up completely, but I put him in his crib (wide awake) and he surprised me by going straight back to sleep! I think he knows that between 6pm and 6am it is time to be asleep Can you try comfort nursing? Or nursing laying down so he doesn't wake?

DD started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I got really fustrated the first few times, and finally laid her in her crib and laid back down. She fussed a little bit, but was back to sleep in about 10 minutes. She's done the same thing the past few nights and everytime I just lay her back in her crib and she's back to sleep. She's learning quickly and rarely even fusses now. I don't turn on any lights, I normally change her diaper, but that's because she sleeps 8-9 hours so it's normally soaked and if I don't, it will keep her awake. I feel that by laying her back down after she eats, even if she's awake, it's teaching her that it's nighttime and she shouldn't be awake.
