Hello Ladies, I was just curious how many of you noticed your body loves to hold onto extra weight while nursing? I always heard that you loose weight quickly if you nurse, but am now realizing that my body won't loose weight while I'm nursing, regardless of how healthy I eat. I don't plan on stopping any time soon, and can deal with the extra flab- but I have to say I'm rather dissapointed

I've been nursing for almost seven months....my pregnancy weight pretty much melted off after I gave birth, which is not normal for me AT ALL! But it has been hard for me to lose weight beyond that. I don't think it's because of nursing as much as it is that nursing makes me HUNGRY all the time and it's hard to cut back on what I eat! Is that the problem for you?

Don't be disappointed....when your baby gets a bit older you'll be able to concentrate on getting the body that you want!

Yes, that is part of the problem, I am constantly ravenous!!! And thirsty-but always hungry. I crave sweets a lot, but rarely have them. I pretty much eat a lot of chicken, veggies, apples, and soup. Normally I would be very lean on those foods, but I still have 20 lbs to lose. Yeah, I'm not stressing about it- nursing my baby is my priority

Don't worry, when your baby gets older, it will be easier. You'll have more free time to exercise if you choose and you can diet a little if you want, because there will be less risk to your milk supply. By the time DD was about 3 months, I had lost all but about 15lbs (I gained 55lbs). I lost another 5lbs over the next few months and then had to start working to lose the rest. It's been fairly easy to do though. I didn't concentrate so much on my diet as I did on exercise. It's so easy, especially as a nursing mom, to get so tied down. You always have to sit down to nurse the baby and when they are younger, you sit to play with them. It's hard to keep active. I started making a point to get out and walk with DD a few days a week. I then joined a gym so I could add some strength training to my workout. I've been able to lose all of my pregnancy weight, now. My weight loss is stopping though and I'm worried that I'm going to start to plateau, even though I'm still working out 5 days a week. It's not uncommon to stop lossing weight when you are breastfeeding. It's nature's way of making sure your baby is taken care of, even if it means holding onto a few extra lbs.

I feel your pain. I'm holding onto 10lbs this time. Normally I'd have lost it all by now. (I have three boys who did not nurse-I pumpled for a month for each of them) I'd lost all the weight by 3 months pp. This time, it's been 6 months and it's hanging on.
Everyone tells me that it will fall off once she weans. We'll see. Not in a rush to do that! So I'll suffer through.

With my dd I nursed her for a year. I lost most of my weight by about 3-4 months, but my thighs, hips and waist were hanging on to a little extra. I couldn't fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans. I actually boxed them up to get rid of them. When dd turned 8 months old, I tried on the old jeans just one last time, and they fit. By 9 months they were loose and I was actually down below my pre-pregnancy weight. I didn't do anything different at all, it just dropped off. I had gotten pregnant when dd was 9 months and was a little worried because I was a little under weight. I think it will drop off by the time you stop nursing. I have the extra on my thighs and hips again, but this time I won't even think about it until I wean ds at a year.

Yeeah, my DD is over 4 months old and I have 20+ lbs to loose, I gained 30 in my pregnancy. So I still look 6 months pregnant (I've even had people ask me when I'm due ) BUT like most of you said, weaning is not an option. I plan on doing child led weaning so who knows, maybe it will slowley fall off over time...whatever...nursing is worth it

I'm dealing with the same, 15-20 lbs left to lose and it's hanging on. Eating healthy and walking every day.

With my daughter I never lost the weight, with my son I'm finally loosing the weight from my daughter. Are you drinking enough water? Because I wasn't loosing ANYTHING and then I DRASTICALLY upped my water and it has just started coming off!!!

I wonder if water is the key. I lost all my pg weight from Lucas within 3 months, but was still holding on to 18lbs from my dd. It has slowly started to come off as well and I'm 6 months pp (from Lucas). I've been drinking much more water this time around. I still have a ways to go, but have lost 5lbs from the weight I gained with dd (only 13 left to go till I'm back to what I was before the kiddos!).

I actually lose a few pounds right after birth, but by about 2 to 3 months I will start to gain it and end up getting up to the weight I was when i gave birth.

But then when I am done nursing the weight falls off without me doing anything.
