My son is now 7 months old and we've never had a problem breastfeeding. Since he has started solids he is sometimes much less interested in nursing or taking a bottle while I am away at work.

While you are away from your LO...how many ounces of breastmilk are they drinking?????

Alex hasn't been drinking much lately at all, had only 6 ounces total yesterday while I was at work...and as of 1:30 today he had only had 2 ounces.

***?!?! Is there something wrong with my kid or does their intake really decrease that much?!?!?!

Anyone know?

Any advice?

It depends too one how much he is getting in solids. What does he usually eat?

Unless it keeps up I wouldn't sweat it - my DS has done this for a few days here & there on occasion & always comes right back to normal.

That doesn't sound like it's too much food, so this could easily be a temporary thing, like Becky mentioned. Abigail has days in a row she eats very little, especially if she gets distracted around mealtimes. He could also be teething, which causes some babies to decrease eating. How much has he drank the past few days? Does he nurse more when you get home and during the night? If he decreases his nursing altogether, even when you are home and it doesn't go back to normal in a few days, get him into his doctor to rule out anything medical.

I think he does tend to nurse more when I am home and he does still get up overnight to nurse. Last night he wasn't really interested in nursing before dinner, but then nursed for almost 10 minutes at 9pm and then again at around 12am and 4am. This morning was definitely a better day...he nursed for 6 minutes before breakfast, ate his whole breakfast and then some and should do great again today with my parents. Yesterday he had a 5 ounce bottle before lunch and had a whole veg and a whole fruit and a 6 ounce bottle in the afternoon. I think it has a lot to do with timing too, I've been pretty nuts about making sure that he is nursing or taking a bottle and I think that with the increase in the amount of stuff that he's eating, I'm not giving him enough time in between to actually be hungry.

He's already got 8 teeth, so we've hit a lull right now with his teething, he started before he was 3 months old.

Thank you so much for responding!!!!

I am having the opposite problem right now. I just went back to work this week and my DD is 5 1/2 months old. She is at my MIL's from 11am till 5pm and during that 6 hrs very day this week she has ate 18 ozs!! I can not keep up with her with my pumping. There is just no way I will pump 18 oz when Im only at work for 6 hrs! Plus, I find if I pump too close to when I pick her up she is really fussy nursing becuase I am "empty". So, I cant pump after 3:30 which really only leave me 2 times to pump while Im here.
We are going to start her on solids very soon so hopefully that will cut down on how much BM she is taking.
