Are you currently suffering from depression brought on by the losses you have suffered?

Shockingly, no. I have pre-existing bipolar disorder, but that is well under control. I am suffering from a grief induced Adjustment Disorder, but not clinical depression. (Can you tell I used to be a therapist?)

I don't honestly know what I am. I know I am not right, but I don't think I am clinically depressed.

Here is the definition of an adjustment disorder:

Quote:
In psychology, adjustment disorder (AD) is a classification of mental disorder that is a psychological response from an identifiable stressor or group of stressors that causes significant emotional or behavioral symptoms that does not meet criteria for more specific disorders.
In English, an adjustment disorder is when you are having trouble coping with a life stressor, but it's not bad enough to be something specific like PTSD. Adjustment disorders can resolve themselves, or they can require treatment to resolve.

Thank you for explaining that, Rebecca, it wasn't a term I'd heard before. How are you dealing with this at the moment? x

I am dealing with PTSD and depression. I've made a decision not to take any medication for the depression (it makes me nervous) but have been taking Clonazepam for anxiety, when I feel I need it.
I moved back to my parents home for my mothers last month to help take care of her and due to some of things that took place during that time I have the PTSD.

Well, I am on a cocktail of (pregnancy safe) meds for my bipolar disorder, so that has helped with the adjustment disorder. And I go to therapy. That and the support I get from JM has really helped me through!

I can understand your decision not to take any meds for the depression. I think its a big step to go on or off any kind of medication. I am so sorry for what you are going through right now, honey - any time you would like to talk about what you have been through we're all right here for you x x (((((hugs)))))

I'm glad that the combination of support and medication is helping you, Rebecca. How long did it take you to find the right combination of meds for your bipolar?
