I was going to post this in SL since I'm on there more often than here But, there are some who believe in God and I didn't want to offend anyone.
I saw this as a comment on one of my friend's status and my jaw dropped. Not only did the touch the subject of God, but went on to walk about "unwed mothers" and such. I was 19 when I had my kid and she hasn't spent a single day in daycare! I have raised her myself and these kinds of thoughts from people disgust me.
I'm so sick of the "God-less Society" argument. As a matter of fact, I'm sick of all of the arguments the know-it-alls come up with.
God-less Society: What about the shooting at the Amish school in 2006? God was surely welcome there and yet 10 children were shot, 5 of them dying.
Gun Control: Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people without a gun. Hijackers killed nearly 3000 people with boxcutters and planes. Criminals will find ways to kill regardless of the law. Extra gun control removes protection from law-abiding citizens, not from criminals.
Violent Video Games: This one really irks me. I'm mentally ill (bipolar). I also regularly play Call of Duty, SOCOM, and Halo. I've not once had the urge to go out and shoot up a school, mall, movie theater, etc... even when I was unmedicated.
I'm not going to pretend to have the answer but the arguments that are constantly being made are not going to solve the problems. Some people are just born with some sort of predetermining factor that sets them up to do things like this. It's not because of games, movies, music, guns, or God. It's because of something in the brain not quite being right. If we took away all violent games, music, and movies, took away all guns and forced God into every house and school, these things would still happen because something else would trigger it in those individuals that are destined to do it.
Stuff like this was unheard of in my day but that doesnt mean it wasnt happening. Just means my parents didnt feel the need to discuss and debate it with me and fill my innocence with the violence that occurs. They knew Id figure that out on my own as I became an independent adult.
As for God-less...whose God do they speak of?? Its a pathetic argument and very old.
I have no answers but I do know until people stop thinking violence is the only route to attention its not going to stop anytime soon and thats very sad.
~My thanks to *Kiliki* for the siggy and Lucy S for the blinkies~
It is rediculous!
My FIL had this conversation with me last night. Saying the reason for all these killings is b/c they took religion out of school. I said, Im sure many of those killers would of been raised in christianity and still have done what they have done... it makes no difference
