Firstly, hallo everyone and thank you so much for reading this. It's Sunday in the morning so I still have to wait another day till the possibility of getting a HPT.
I'm currently 19 with my own place, working and studying at university. When I was 16 I had problems with the pill, if I even took it 3-5 hours late I'd come on, which I just couldn't cope with, so I went on the Implanon implant. I had heavy periods for about 2 months as I recall (it was a quite ago!) then it settled into a regular cycle, coming on around the 25th each month.
I had the implant out about a year later to go natural as my relationship broke down and I wasn't interested in sex. My periods went back to normal immediately.
Now I'm with my partner, I went back into the implant. I had a 3 month period (with 1-2 days of spotting then back into the heavier stuff ((so sorry about this!!))), then back to the once a month routine I've had on the implant before. And now my period hasn't come this month. I'm nearly always regular, and I started when I was 11 and have never missed a month before. My best friend commented on my stomach a while back and it does feel larger, when I've not put weight on anywhere else, I've gone off alot of previously idolised foods, my nipples are tender to touch with a little pressure and I just keep eating, along with finding it hard to sleep and (randomly) nauseous, not like every day, just more often that normal.
I know I need to buy a HPT but I've been reading alot about them not working with the Implanon do to them releasing hormones that tell your body that you're not pregnant, and that I need a blood test? If I am carrying, I would keep it so the rate of MC on the implant scares me.
I felt the need for the back story so you understand how I usually *work* but any advice or information you had would really be appreciated. I wanted to ask a pharmacist when I buy a HPT but do you think I need to see a doctor about getting a blood test to be on the safe side?
The hormones in the Implanon can cause side effects that mimic pregnancy symptoms. Even if you didn't experience these type of side effects before, it can happen anytime. The way we metabolize synthetic hormones can change the longer the hormones are in our system, or due to age, or when we experience weight fluctuations, etc.
Every method of BC has a failure rate, so pregnancy is also possible. Just unlikely, the Implanon contain pretty aggressive drugs.
The hormones from the Implanon are not the same as the hormones the HPT will test for, so you can be fairly confident that a test will be accurate.
Thank you so much! If you're 100% sure that the HPT is all I need when I'll just hunt one of those down tomorrow and let you know the results.
It must just be pregnancy symptoms, makes me feel a little odd though, that my body is expect something not there. Side effect, I suppose.
I've been on implanon for 3 years and the first year and a half I bled profusely, but then it stopped for the last year and a half. And I totally look and feel pregnant all the time, but I'm not. I am never going on this bc again.
