Hi ladies, I am Alana. I am 25 and lurk and post randomly on Just Mommies. I have been on 3 type on the birth control pills for about 8 years...I tried 3 types of pills for most the 8 yrs and my body doesnt like them. I have had 4 oops pregnancies and several gross symptoms from pill...I also tried a nuvaring and that was an epic fail and got prego again...April 23rd I got my first Depo shot per the doctor recommending I try it...was great for the first 3wks and i felt amazing! Now I am a raggy hormonal B***H and a totally lactating with no baby or pregnancy...its annoying...I wondered if anyone has tried and loves other types of BC...I am currently single going through a rough patch and dont intend to be sexually active at all for awhile...I just want to be proactive and also get my body back to a regulated cycle and stuff if i can...I used seasonique and havent had a period since december cuz i never even spotted yet on Depo...I told my dr everything she says depo may be best for me but im just researching other options in case...thanks!!!

If your body doesn't respond well to hormones, you might do well with a natural approach. First it will be necessary to give your body some time to recover from the hormones though, and recovery from Depo does take longer than recovery from other hormonal types of BC.
Modern types of Natural Family Planning (NOT the old Rhythm or Calender methods) are 96-99% effective. Rather than doing anything to alter the healthy functions of your body, you learn to read your body and alter behavior instead. On any given day, you can tell whether you're potentially fertile or not, no matter how long your cycles are or even if you're not having cycles. On fertile days you avoid genital contact to completely eliminate the chance of conception. On infertile days, no other BC is needed because there's no chance of conception anyway. However, to be effective it is really important to take a class and learn it really well. Many women find the knowledge very empowering.
Maybe try an IUD. There are hormonal (lasts 5 years) and non-hormonal (lasts 10 years) versions. However some places will not place them if you've never given birth. Also they can be very expencive if you don't have insurance.
The implant may be another option for you to try. I know several people with them and every last one of them love it...but everyone is different.
