So last weekend, dh and I stayed at my il's. I forgot my pack of pills at home. I missed my pill Saturday and was about 7-8 hours late on Sunday. It was the third week of my pack.
I didn't have the instructions on me so I took one pill as soon as I got home Sunday night and over the next day and a half I caught up to where I should have been and Tuesday and Wednesday I took my pill at the usual time. I am now on the placebo pill week.
I have now found the instructions for my particular bcp as I am looking for how long we should continue to use condoms. The instructions say if I missed two pills in the third week I should have just thrown out the pack and started a new one. I didn't do that, obviously. *sigh*
I didn't really 'miss' two days, though, so now I'm not sure what to think. I missed one day and was several hours late a second day. Whether or not I should have just restarted my pack, I didn't and now I'm not sure how long before it should be "safe" to ditch the condoms.
From my past experience of being on the bcp, I did this a couple of times as well and I would just stop using a back up method once I got my period. I never had any scares or anything when I did that, so you should be okay at that point because in essence you are resetting your cycle.
Obviously I am not a professional here though. lol. That is just based on my own experience. Honestly, before I went off them entirely about 5 weeks ago, I had started to get pretty lax, and still no unexpected pregnancy. haha. But we all know there are women out there that get pg after missing one. (Guess I'm not that fertile!) So to be on the safe side keep using a back up until AF gets here. You should be good to go after that. Good luck!
