Hello to all! I'm new here and came accross this website and messege board while searching the internet for some information. I'm 35 and mother of 3. I had my mirena removed and replaced this morning. However a problem happened and I wanted to know if this has happened to anyone or if anyone had similar side effects. After the OB removed my old mirena which I didn't expect to be so painful, she put the new one in.. which was painful and uncomfortable as well, she then procceded to cut the string and supposly the scissor was defective making the string to be pulled which pulled and expelled the mirena that was already in place. She then had to do it all over again, using a new mirena and scissors. I was laying there instructed to breathe by the nurse as if I was having contractions.
When the whole thing was over which all took about 25 minutes and felt as if I was going to faint when I sat down. I felt very dizzy and disoriented. After feeling better, they gave me 2 ibuprophen 400mg and told me to expect some cramping and take some ibuprophen. The thing is that I'm concerned why everything was so painful as I'm pain tolerant and the cramps I been having since are extremely painful. I don't know if there might be something wrong, I don't want to sound like a kid when I'm a grown women with 3 kids so, I guess my question is if this has happened to anyone or if they had similar pain when they got theirs removed. Thank you all for your responses
I haven't had my IUD removed, I have paraguard. But when I had it put in it was more painful than I had expected! And I had bad cramping for the next couple days. I'm scared to get mine out because I'm afraid of the pain!!
I haven't had mine removed, but after my Mirena was put in, I was extremely dizzy for the next 24 hours and had bad cramps. It sounds wussy, but I was on the couch for the rest of the day/night and into the next morning. Everything was fine -- I went in to make sure that it hadn't perforated (had a sonogram just in case).
So it may not be that unusual. My insertion was extremely painful (worst pain of my life) and I almost fainted, too. If it doesn't go away within a day or two, call your doc and get a check up.
